Tiger Woods has undoubtedly had an enduring time during the end of the last decade. A scandal that shocked the world brought the golfing legend to the knees, but it was his broken relationship with his then-wife, Elin Nordegren, that likely hurt the most. The two divorced in 2010, leaving behind two young kids. But in the course of their parenting, the pair seem to have found a spark, which has helped mend their relationship together.
How Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren became “best friends”
Amidst widespread rumors and headlines, Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren posted a joint message to signal the end of their marriage on the 23rd of August in 2010. At the time of their divorce, they had two children – daughter Sam, and son Charlie. The two were quite young at the time, aged two and one respectively, and the court allowed shared custody of the minors to the former couple.
Since then, the two have set forth on their own journeys, but have taken an active interest in their children’s day-to-day life. Through their parenting program, Nordegren and Woods have spent time together and have seemingly resolved their past differences.
In an interview with TIME, Woods stated that his former wife was now more than just a friend. “She’s one of my best friends. We’re able to pick up the phone, and we talk to each other all the time,” he said. “We both know that the most important things in our lives are our kids. I wish I would have known that back then.”
Furthermore, Woods credited their children with repairing the bond between him and Nordegren. “She is one of my best friends now, and it’s all because of my kids. We’ve worked so hard, and I’ve shown her how much I love them,” he said. “We’ve worked so hard at co-parenting”.
Even though they are on talking terms currently, it’s unlikely that Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren will be together again. Woods has remained unmarried but has since been in relationships with Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn and presently with Erica Herman.
On the other hand, Elin delivered her first child with NFL player James Cameron in October 2019, all but confirming her relationship status.
