The Boston Celtics needlessly pushed back on LeBron James jokingly claiming that the franchise sells “F— LBJ” t-shirts at TD Garden.
James’ comments, made Friday during the latest episode of The Shop, included him calling Boston fans ‘racist as f—.’
A Celtics spokesperson told the Boston Globe in a statement that the team doesn’t sell merchandise at its team store that disrespects James, or any other athlete.
“There was like a ‘f— LBJ’ t-shirt,” James said. “I believe they probably sold it at the f–kin’ team shop. They sold it at the team shop. I’m like, ‘the Celtics had something to do with that s–t.'”
The comments came after he was asked which fanbase is most difficult to deal with, quickly pointing to Boston.

LeBron James, part owner of Red Sox
James became part owner of the Red Sox last year, making his comments on Boston fans that much more incendiary.
The NBA superstar continued talking about how Boston fans will say and do anything to opposing players, claiming he once got a beer thrown at him at TD Garden.
“Because they racist as f—, that’s why,” James said. “They will say anything. And it’s fine. I mean, f—, it’s my life. I’ve been dealing with my whole life. I don’t mind it. Like, I hear it. Like, if I hear somebody close by, I’ll check them real quick. I’ll move on to the game.
“They’re going to say whatever the f— they want to say. They might throw something on you. I mean, I got a beer thrown on me leaving the game. Like, it’s Boston.”
